The European Club Cup starts in a week, right after the London stage of the Grand Prix . The Azerbaijani club SOCAR is as usually considered as one of the main favourites. Recently the club has strengthened with two new players - Veselin Topalov and Gata Kamsky.

Vladimir Tukmakov, the head coach of SOCAR, noted in his interview to extratime.az that he is satisfied with his wards' play in London: "The result turned out to be just perfect - Mamedyarov and Topalov shared the win, Grischuk was only half a point behind them. Perhaps, the Russian player was one of the losers of the competition, he took a good place, but it still wasn't enough."

The coach also mentioned the play of other members of the team: Safarli and Guseinov participated in Baku Open. "The guys played at their usual level and gained some rating points. If they will play at the same level in Eilat, that suits me fine.

According to Tukmakov, most of the players of the team will gather in Eilat several days before the competition starts, while those who played at the Grand Prix London will join them on October 10th. "I'm a bit concerned about the busy schedule of Shakhriyar Mamedyarov, Alexander Grischuk and Veselin Topalov. The Olympiad was a very tiresome tournament which was followed by the London stage of Grand Prix. Now they have to compete at the European Club Cup, but this is how it works for professional chess players. So, I'm a bit worried of how they will manage to recover only in few days."
