Topalov - Mamedyarov encounter turned out to be the shortest in Round 8 of the Grand Prix London. Veselin confessed he strengthened Caro-Kann defence in comparison to the game Adams - Mamedyarov of Round 2, but Shakhriyar chose another variation.

"I couldn't put pressure, - Topalov said. - My opponent defended accurately and in the end just forced me to agree on threefold. From a theoretic point of view it was probably a good game, but I'm a bit upset because I again couldn't do anything with white."
