Vassily Ivanchuk and Shakhriyar Mamedyarov Confirmed Their Participation In the Second Petrov Memorial

The second Vladimir Petrov Memorial will take place from February 15th-17th in Jurmala. The organizer of the competition Alexei Shirov named two top GM participants who will surely take part in the Memorial: Alexander Morozevich and Viktor Korchnoi. Now Shiov announced that Vassily Ivanchuk and Shakhriyar MAmedyarov will also participate. Overall more than 100 participants are expected to participate. 

This is a 14-round Swiss with 15+6 time control.

  • The second Vladimir Petrov Memorial will take place in February (15-17) next year. It was announced by one of the tournament organizers Alexey Shirov who gave his comments on our site. One of the VIP guests of the tournament is a real legend – Viktor Korchnoi.

    The festival held in the memory of this Latvian Grandmaster first took place in Jurmala this year. His winner was Alexander Morozevich.

  • The second rapid Vladimir Petrov Memorial will be held from February 15-17 in Jurmala, Latvia. GM Alexei Shirov told Vesty Today about the problems he faced as the organizer of the competition:

  • Another strong competition will take place in St. Petersburg from October 27th till November 4th. The North capital will host Chigorin Memorial - the Russian Cup stage among men. This will be a 9 round Swiss competition; at the moment 280 players confirmed participation, 75 of them are GMs (including WGMs).

  • Eventually it turns out that GM Vassily Ivanchuk accepted the invitation and will play in the ACP Cup which is scheduled to take place from September 12th to 15th in Riga, Latvia. This was announced by Emil Sutovsky on his Facebook page. Earlier Sutovsky and Shirov said Ivanchuk declined the invitation.  

  • Emil Sutovsky announced another eight participants of the ACP Cup which will take place in Riga from September 12th-15th live on Chess-News radio:

  • The 8th Tal Memorial will take place from June 12th-24th in Moscow. The Russia Chess Federation published the participants' list:

  • Russian Chess Federation announced that according to the final decision the 7th Mikhail Tal Memorial will take place from June 7-19. At the moment Magnus Carlsen, Levon Aronian and Vladimir Kramnik confirmed their participation in the tournament. Other participants as well as the venue of the tournament will be known later.

  • Grandmaster Luke McShane of England accepted the invitation of the Russian Chess Federation to participate in Tal Memorial, which was announced after publishing poll results. McShane has won an online poll on Federation's website receiving 3860 votes. The information was published by the agency "R-Sport" referring to the Head of RCF Board Ilya Levitov.
