The 5th game Laznicka - Shirov has ended in Novy Bor. The guest was white and as it was expected they continued the duel in the closed Caro-Kann. First to avoid the variants of the previous games was Shirov; he preferred 8.0-0 to 8.Nbd2. Anyway, this is a known line, including Laznicka's practice. Czech tried out the novelty:

10...Nxc6!? ChessBase database offers the games where the players preferred taking with the pawn. Namely, 10...bxc6 11.c4 dxc4 12.Qa4 Qd7 13.Na3 c3 14.bxc3 Nd5 15.Nxf5 exf5 16.Nc4 took place in Khalifman - Laznicka in the European Championship 2012. The ex-champion gradually outplayed Czech player.

Shirov got some advantage, which he gradually lost by sacrificing the pawn - d4. After some other inaccuracies black's advantage became dangerous:

33....Re4?! Better was 33...Qb3 34.Nxd4 Qxd1+ 35.Kg2 Qh5!, and the queen is ready to hide from the check from f7.
34.Kg2 Qb3 35.Qd7 Shirov left his rook under attack.
35...Qxd1?? After 35...Rxb4 black had an extra pawn, but Laznicka preferred to take the rook...
36.Qd5+ Kh8 37.Qf7 1-0

Thus, the last game which will be held tomorrow at 18:30 MSK Time is not important for determining the winner. Shirov has already won the match.
