World Rapid Championship: Magnus Carlsen leads confidently

Magnus Carlsen became the hero of the second playing day of the World Rapid Championship. After yesterday's five rounds he shared lead with Russian GM Karjakin. Today Norwegian started with two draws - against Dreev and Gelfand - in both cases he hardly escaped his rivals.

Then typical for his games "miracles" started. In Round 8 he outsmarted Mamedyarov in a drawn endgame, in Round 9 he "exhausted" Tkachiev, and finally he beat his main rival Karjakin being patient and waiting for his mistake

After 53...Bf6 black could hold easily.
But Karjakin played
53...Rc4+? 54. Kf5 Rc5+ 55.Be5,
and soon Carlsen celebrated victory.

5 rounds before the finish Carlsen leads with 8.5 points out of 10, Karjakin and Topalov have 7 points each, Mamedyarov chases them with 6 points. Then come: Radjabov, Grischuk and Dreev - 5.5, Svidler and Kurnosov - 5, Gelfand and Ivanchuk - 4.5, Morozevcih and Kazhgaleyev - 4, Bologan and Tkachiev - 3, Ismagambetov - 2.

The decisive 5 rounds will start tomorrow at 13:00 MSK Time.
