The London Chess Classic Will Be Held Between 8th-17th December This Year

The dates of the 4th edition are 8th-17th December 2012. Nine elite grandmasters will play in a round-robin tournament just like last year. More details are to follow.

  • We've reported that the traditional London Chess Classic will take place again this year, however, tournament director IM Malcolm Pein has tweeted new dates of the tournament: December 1st-10th. Earlier Mr. Pein announced the tournament would take place December 8th-17th. 

    The rest remains unchanged. 


  • Malcolm Pein, the tournament director of the London Chess Classic festival, has announced five participants of the main tournament for 2014 in his Twitter, namely:

  • Finally the list of participants of the fourth London Chess Classic Supertournament is now open to public. One round robin tournament will take place in December (1-10) between Magnus Carlsen, Vishvanatan Anand, Levon Aronian, Vladimir Kramnik, Judit Polgar, Michael Adams, Luke J McShane, Gawain Jones and Hikaru Nakamura. The current US champion joined the other players last.

  • The organizer of the London Chess Classic Malcolm Pein announced that the 4th London Chess Classic will be held from December 1st - 10th, 2012 on the Facebook page of the tournament. "The tournament will again be a nine player all play all. I will announce the players, venue and prize fund in due course," he says.

  • The organizers of the traditional London Chess Classic announced this year's competition will switch to rapid chess. It is planned to take place from December 11 to 15; the decision was made because of two factors: the world championship match finishes shortly before (November 26) the rapid tournament will start, while team championship is scheduled to end on December 6, so most of the potential participants might not be "much into classical chess."    

  • The official website of the London Super-Tournament reports that the World Champion Vishy Anand was first to confirm his participation in the forthcoming tournament. The competition will take place in the capital for the 4th time and will continue from December 1st to December 10th. Last year's winners were Magnus Carlsen (2009, 2010) and Vladimir Kramnik (2011).

  • The official website of the London Chess Classic reports that Levon Aronian became the third GM to confirm his participation in the super-tournament  which will take place in the capital of England from December 1st to December 10th 2012.

  • The line-up of the main London Chess Classic event is fully known: 5 recently announced super-GMs (Fabiano Caruana, Viswanathan Anand, Hikaru Nakamura, Vladimir Kramnik, Michael Adams) will be joined by Anish Giri who is ranked No.7 in the Live Chess Ratings list. The single round-robin tournament will take place in London on December 10-14, 2014.

  • The ACP announced the results of the Tournament of the Year 2012 contest. According to the note "a total number of 769 votes were casted."
