The 3rd Women’s Grand Prix starts

The ceremony of solemn opening of the Women’s Grand Prix took place in hotel “Sindika” on Saturday. This is the fourth time Nalchik hosts big international chess competitions. Guests were welcomed by the President of Kabardino-Balkaria Arsen Kanokov and the head of FIDE Kirsan Ilyumzhinov.

The draw for the first round:

Batkhuyag Munguntuul (Mongolia, 2465) – Ekaterina Kovalevskaya (Russia, 2421)

Kateryna Lahno (Ukraine, 2554) - Alisa Galliamova (Russia, 2498)

Zhu Chen (Qatar, 2490) - Alexandra Kosteniuk (Russia, 2469)

Zhao Xue (China, 2497) - Viktorija Cmilyte (Lithuania, 2525)

Nadezhda Kosintseva (Russia, 2560) - Ju Wenjun (China, 2536)

Antoaneta Stefanova (Bulgaria, 2528) - Tatiana Kosintseva (Russia, 2536)

Three of the participants Russian Kosteniuk, Bulgarian Stefanova and Zhu Chen from Qatar are former World Champions. The current World Champion, winner of the two first tournaments of the series Hou Yifan skips the 3rd stage of the Grand Prix. Humpu Koneru the main rival of Chinese didn’t reach the capital of Kabardino-Balkaria as well.
