FIDE Rating List: Tomashevsky Approaches Top Ten, and Judit Polgar Disappears from List

A year has passed since Judit Polgar announced the end of her chess career and during which she has not played a single official event. Now, under FIDE rules, her name has been removed from the FIDE rating list, leaving Hou Yifan unchallenged as women's world number one. Among those who have played in the past month, one should mention Alexandra Kosteniuk: her success in the Russian Championship Superfinal has raised her to seventh place in the world, at 2530.

Nor was Evgeny Tomashevsky's triumph in Chita in vain: with a rating of 2758, he is now 13th in the world, the highest he has ever been.
