Currently at Liepaja, the 22nd international festival "Liepājas rokāde" is taking place. For four days, from 6-9 August, there are four tournaments - an open and a team rapid event (13 and 7 round respectively, time control in each case 15+5), a 13-round open blitz event and a round robin rapid event, which the organisers have officially christened a "super-tournament".
The names of four of the players were known in advance: Daniel Fridman, Igor Kovalenko, Zurab Azmaiparashvili and Alexander Khalifman. Four others are added, based on the results of the open: Evgeny Romanov, Vladislav Kovalev, Alexey Aleksandrov and Artur Neiksans.
At 16.30 (here and further - Moscow time) will start the 4th round of the Rapid Super Tournament in Kiev. The 5th round will be played at 18.00, the sixth - at 19.30. Watch the live games.
The traditional chess festival "Vidzeme Summer" has taken place in the Latvian town of Limbaži for the fourth time. One of the organizers was Alexei Shirov.
The Riga Technical University Open is under way in Riga, Latvia. Daniel Fridman (Germany), Jaan Ehlvest (USA), Alberto David (Luxemburg), Evgeni Romanov (Russia) are heading the list of participants. The fifth round has started at 12:00 MSK time, you can follow the games live. Round 6 will also be held today. The FIDE website has published Regulations for the World Rapid and Blitz Championships today. The main difference presented this year suggests "The events will be Swiss pairings tournaments and will be held over two days for Blitz and three days for Rapid. The Blitz will have fifteen rounds with each player playing with white and black against his paired opponent.
The world rapid and blitz champions will take place from June 15-21 in Dubai. Both competitions will be heldin Swiss format: rapid (time control 15+10) - 15 rounds in two days, blitz (3+2) - 21 rounds in three days. The list of participants is available on the official website, for instance Evgeny Najer is only 50th according to his rating. First is Magnus Carlsen, he is followed by Levon Aronian, Alexander Grischuk and Vishy Anand.

The Ukrainian international master Stanislav Bogdanovich is in eighth place in the world blitz rating list published today. Bogdanovich (2815) is in good company - just above him is Levon Aronian (2816), and immediately below - Teimour Radjabov (2808), with just seven people separating him from top man Magnus Carlsen (2933).
In Voronezh, the 19th Alekhine Memorial is taking place, one of the most well-known chess festivals in the Russian calendar. It traditionally begins with two fast tournaments. The first day saw a FischerRandom tournament (15 minutes + 3 seconds per move), in which 56 players took part, including 12 GMs. The winner was Dmitry Bocharov from Novosibirsk, with 6/7.
The World Rapid and Blitz Championships will be held in Astana from 2 until 10 July. The qualifying rapid tournament will be held between 2 and 3 July. Anyone with the rating of 2300 or over can play in this 9-round Swiss tournament (the regulations in Russian).
