Biel: Three Contenders For First Place, Vachier-Lagrave on a Roll

In Biel, the main event is nearing its climax, with six players involved. The winner for the past two years, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, was a few days ago on a modest 50%, but as the finish approaches, he is on a roll: yesterday he beat Michael Adams and today he downed David Navara.

NAVARA - VACHIER-LAGRAVE

White's position is already not better, and he needs to be careful.
16.fxe5? He should not concede the d5-square: 16.Ncxb4 axb4 17.fxe5 Bxd5 18.cxd5 Bxe5, and all the play is ahead.
16...Nbxd5 17.cxd5 Nxd5 18.exd6 Qxd6 19.Bxa5? Evidently, Navara underestimated his opponent's counterplay. However, even with material equality, Black stands better.
19...f4 20.Qe1?! Be5 21.e4 fxe3 22.Bc3 Rxf1+ 23.Bxf1 Re8, and the passed e-pawn decided the game. 0-1

Position before the final round
Vachier-Lagrave, Wojtaszek - 5.5;
Navara - 5.

Tomorrow, Vachier has White against against the apparently punch-drunk Rapport, who has lost four games in a row, whilst Wojtaszek and Navara play each other. Play starts at 15.00 Moscow time, 13.00 London time.
