Natalya Zhukova close to winning in Chakvi

Four players have won the European Women's Championship twice - Tatiana Kosintseva, Valentina Gunina, Katerina Lagno and Pia Cramling. But nobody has done the double with a gap of 15 years. And could not have done, because the event did not start until 2000.

But now Natalya Zhukova has a great chance to regain the title after such a period of time. She became the first European Women's Champion back in 2000. Then the event was in Batumi, when she was awarded the title of honorary citizen of Adjara. This is also an odd-numbered year and the venue is in Adjara, and a round before the finish Natalya Zhukova leads Nino Batsiashvili by half a point.

The Georgian, who has led almost all the way, was very unlucky in her game against Zhukova.

BATSIASHVILI - ZHUKOVA

9...Nb6 10.Rb1?! Nino mixes up the opening. Black has played the knight to b6, which is not the most common move (usual is 9...Bg7). If White wants to play the line with b2-b3, then he should do it at once, exploiting the fact that the black bishop is not yet on the long diagonal. After 10.b3 Bg7 11.Rb1 the game would transpose into the main line.
10...Bc4 11.b3? And this is a bad mistake. White should give up the rook's pawn, e.g. 11.Ng5 Bxa2 12.Nxa2 Rxa2, and the position is roughly equal.
11...Bxd5 12.Nxd5 Nbxd5 13.Bb2?! It was still not too late to regroup and start to play as though White is Black - 13.Ra1.
13...Rxa2 14.0-0 Bg7 15.e4? Nb4 16.Re1 The position is already close to winning and White did not put up much resistance in the remainder. 0-1

The final round (maybe not decisive) starts tomorrow at 10.00 Moscow time. Zhukova (8.5) plays White against Danielian (7.5), and Batsiashvili (8) is Black against Goryachkina (7).
