FIDE has published the official rating list for March 2015. Hikaru Nakamura's recent successes have allowed him to set his new personal record, 2798, which brings him to the 3rd rank in the world. Another American top player, Wesley So, is left behind on the 8th rank, even though his Elo is only 10 points lower.

It's logical to suggest that Hikaru might have been motivated exactly by So's breakthrough, even though Nakamura has claimed he didn't feel any real rivalry between him and Wesley. Let us remind you that they are going to meet in the phenomenally strong U.S. Championship this April.

Another remarkable thing about the new list is that only two players in the world have 2800+ for the moment - Magnus Carlsen (of course) and Fabiano Caruana. The latter, by the way, is also on the brink of leaving the privileged zone, having 2802 only. Anish Giri, who had crossed the 2800 barrier in the live ratings as a result of his win over Peter Svidler in the first round of the Tbilisi GP stage, failed to keep it and is now on the 7th rank with 2790.

Meanwhile, the most remarkable change has happened in the women's list, where Hou Yifan has surpassed Judit Polgar officially, without any 'but'. Her new rating is 2686, while Polgar has 2675.

Judit Polgar, who has declared her retirement from tournament chess in August 2014, was keeping the first position in the FIDE women's ratings permanently for 26 years.
