The Super Rapidplay open has concluded in London yesterday as the start of the 6th London Chess Classic festival: before the main round-robin, the six invited super-GMs have warmed up in rapid chess accompanied by many other titled players as well as ordinary amateurs.
We've already reported on the first playing day; the second one was more exciting as the strongest began to face each other.
However, this didn't stop Hikaru Nakamura: the only player to collect half-a-point from him was the British GM Matthew Sadler (currently residing in The Netherlands) who had been in the world top 20 back in the late 1990's.
After this 'setback' Nakamura won an impressive series of games, defeating Michael Adams, Anish Giri, Fabiano Caruana, and Viswanathan Anand.
Nakamura finished on 9.5 out of 10 which brought him a pretty penny of £ 8000.
"I offered draws to my opponents in the @londonchess2014 but they would have none of it!"
Anish Giri got the 2nd place with 8.5 points. One of his main achievements was the revenge against Vladimir Kramnik for the recent defeat in Qatar.
As for Kramnik himself, he has finished within the group of 7 players tied for the 3rd place with 8 points. Final standings
This evening (8th December at 19:00 GMT) the London Chess Classic festival will be continued by the Elite Player Blitz Tournament that is to determine the starting numbers for the players of the main round-robin.The FIDE Open is also starting today at 16:30.

For the moment of publication, 6 blitz games out of 16 have been over. The current score is 4-2 to Nakamura.
The blitz battle of 16 games which had to decide the outcome of the Nakamura vs Aronian exhibition match after the classical part had been equal (2-2) has ended in favour of the American GM: 9.5-6.5.
The day two of the Geneva Chess Masters in Group B brought the following results: Alexandra Kosteniuk lost against Hikaru Nakamura, while Etienne Bacrot defeated his compatriot Romain Edouard 1.5-0.5. Thus, Nakamura and Bacrot scored 2 points each and move into semifinal, Kosteniuk and Edouard withdraw. Tomorrow's encounters won't decide anything.
Two GM matches have started simultaneously in the Dutch town of Hoogeveen. in games 1, Anish Giri outplayed Alexei Shirov with the black pieces, while Jan Timman and Baadur Jobava made a draw.
