The president of the Russian Chess Federation Andrey Filatov told our website that he has no ambitions to head up FIDE if offered: "First of all, the current FIDE president is good enough. Secondly, this position is extremely time-consuming and is related to enormous number of air travels. So, I've got neither time nor desire for that."

Filatov praises Ilyumzhinov a lot: "I am highly respectful to what he does. Ilyumzhinov is the man who has brought the chess world together, breathed new life into it. Look how many countries have joined FIDE during his reign, how many countries take part in Chess Olympiads - sometimes more than in the Olympic Games! This is Ilyumzhinov's merit... I cooperated with him before becoming the RCF president - together we were organizing the Anand-Gelfand match in Moscow, and our cooperation was fantastic".

Andrey Filatov is a Russian entrepreneur and chess supporter. Apart from his RCF presidency, he is vice president of FIDE. Full text of his interview to Chess-News is available in Russian.
