Kirsan Ilyumzhinov arrived to Moscow from the Olympiad in Tromso and gave an interview to the radio station Mayak.

According to FIDE president the same hotel and even the same floor is occupied by "the Ukrainian and Russian womens' teams." Moreover, "they are living right next to each other." Ilyumzhinov thinks it didn't happen by chance, "That's interesting, at all Olympiads we are trying not to place the challengers in the same hotels, we try to accomodate them in different places, but here somehow.. The organizing committee does it purposfully, it just doesn't take up on FIDE recommendations."

It gets even more interesting:

"All the analysts, experts, chess players think that Russian women's team can claim not just for the prize winning places, but for the gold medals as long as they've already won the Olympiads twice. I mean they have all chances. the team is very strong and balanced so I think that the president of RCF composed the team very correctly, they're now fighting for a win only."

About the Russian men's team:

"The team spirit is the most important thing at the Olympiads. Once you have the leader and the captain you will also have the team spirit. Before the Olympiad started we discussed with Andrei Filatov, the president of the Russian Chess Federation, who could be the leader taking the team to the gold medals. As FIDE president I don't only wish victory Russia, but all other 180 teams as well.

- And who was chosen as the leader?
[...]

- Volodya Kramnik, he's the oldest, he's like the head of the clan who has played at quite a few Olympiads. I think he can, let's say, wear the captain's t-shirt."
