FIDE president's assistant Berik Balgabayev commented for our website on Garry Kasparov's accusations towards current FIDE leadership. According to one of such accusations Russian embassies worldwide are putting pressure on chess federations and demand from them voting for Kirsan Ilyumzhinov.

"As a former diplomate I can assure that such a practice is just impossible," Balgabayev told us. "The embassies can recommend to vote for their candidate which is absolutely normal and which happens frequently, but no one can be demanding anything, this is just not how things work in the world of diplomacy. You can ask any leader of the federation if he was forced to vote for Ilyumzhinov. Those stories on presssure from Russian embassies are simply made up by Kasparov."
