The first round of the Tromso Olympiad is under way. In the first rounds, as usually, the strongest teams face much weaker opponents.

Take a look at Alexander Grischuk's quick win over the representative of Jordan Basil. Today Grischuk played on the first board instead of Vladimir Kramnik.

BASIL (2135, Jordan) - GRISCHUK (2795, RUSSIA)
Sicialian defense
1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 d6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Bc4 The move isn't played on a professional level. 4...Nf6 After 4...Qa5+ 5.c3! dxc3?! 6.Nxc3 a comfortable for White version of Smith-Morra gambit.

5.Qe2? A blunder. An approximate equality could be maintained with 5.Nxd4 Nxe4!? 6.Bxf7+ (or 6.Qh5 e6 7.Bb5+ Nd7 8.Nxe6 Nef6! 9.Nxd8 Nxh5 10.Bxd7+ Bxd7 11.Nxb7 Bc6 12.Na5 Bxg2 13.Rg1 =) 6...Kxf7 7.Qh5+ g6 8.Qd5+. Or 5.Qxd4. А вот 5.c3? not that correct: 5...Nxe4! 6.Qxd4 Nf6, and the white pawn c3 hinders the knight to develop. 5...Nc6 6.c3 Bg4!

7.cxd4?! Logical, but inccorect. 7...Nxd4 8.Bxf7+? Kxf7 9.Qc4+ White might have hoped to win back the material and it manages to do so, but alas for only several move...  9...Ne6! 10.Ng5+ Ke8 11.Nxe6 Rc8 It's the easiest way but 11...Qc8 aslo wins. 12.Qa4+ Qd7 13.Qxd7+ Nxd7 And can't keep the piece. 14.Nxg7+ Bxg7 15.Nd2 Ne5 16.f3 Bd7 0–1 (Mikhail Golubev's commentary)
