Poikovsky: Bologan Gains 3rd Win in a Row

Viorel Bologan may be referred as the most contradictory participant of the tournamnet in Poikovsky.

He started with two losses and then lost another game in Round 4. Then was a free day, football and Bologan is already ahead of "carlsen's schedule": today he gained the 3rd win in a row.

  • Dmitry Jakovenko replaced Saric in the shared lead position two rounds to go. Russian GM may be following a balanced tactics: he defeated two outsiders (at the time those games were played) Bologan and Sutovsky. Then he made two short draws with the compatriots, today he won an important game against the grandmaster from Croatia.

  • Ivan Saric and Alexander Morozevich strengthened lead after fourth round of the Poikovsky tournament. 

    Crioatian GM grabbed an advantage as white in a rare line of Caro-Kann in the encounter against Pavel Eljanov. Ukrainian tried to save the position but after the decisive breakthrough of the king on e5 square it was already impossible. This is third in a row win of the 23-year-old Saric - the youngest participant of the event.

  • As usually ten grandmasters will compete at Poikovsky competition scheduled to take place from May 11-20. Four grandmasters out of ten are Russian: Dmitry Jakovenko, Ian Nepomniachtchi, Alexander Morozevich and Alexander Motylev

    Other participants are Alexey Shirov, Viorel Bologan, Etienne Bacrot, Pawel Eljanov, Emil Sutovsky and Ivan Saric.

  • Vioral Bologan gained his second win in a row in Poikovsky: he beat Ruslan Ponomariov yesterday, while today he took an upper hand on Lazaro Bruzon.

  • Pavel Eljanov disappointed Dmitry Jakovenko ones again: recently he defeated Russian GM in a mini match of the World Cup which took place in Tromso. Today Ukrainian took an upper hand on Jakovenko in Round 5 of the Poikovsky tournament.
