According to the news coming from Norway the organizers of the Olympiad are facing serious problems. This was confirmed by the president of Norway Chess federation Joran Aulin-Jansson in the commentary to aftenposten.no: "We should face the truth, the situation is critical, dramatic I would say."

In 2010 Norwegian government agreed to finance the event with 75 million NOK and the sum was paid entirely this year, however the expenses grew in four years, the website writes. Namely, part of those money was spent on the organisation of World Cup 2013.

The organizers of the Olympiad asked the state for an extra 15 million, however, they got a refusal.

Norwegian website also quotes Hans Olav Karde, chairman of the Tromso 2014 organising committee, "The amount of money we have right now is not enough for holding the event," he says.

The Olympiad is scheduled to take place from August 1-15 in Tromso. The FIDE presidential elections are also planned to be held there.
