Candidates' still has no winner

Vishy Anand could leave his rival's only theoretical chances to catch him after today's 12th round at Candidates', however, he failed to convert a striking advantage in the encounter against Dmitry Andreikin.

The opening strategy chosen by Russian GM is more than suspicious. Anand always played such positions well, he didn't miss a chance of using the opponent's mistake this time too.

ANAND - ANDREIKIN

21...c5? and White gains big advantage.
22.d5 exd5 23.cxd5?! Anand gave Dmitry "the last chance." Stronger was 23.Nf5!
23...Nb6 24.Red3 Qc8? Black had to take the pawn:
after 24...Nbxd5 25.Rxd5 Nxd5 26.Rxd5 Rxd5 27.Qxd5 Rd8 position is approximately equal.
25.d6! Аnd now White is almost winning.
25...Rfe8? Andreikin confused failing to find a stronger defence.
26.Nh5! At this point the spectators already named Anand as the winner of the tournament.
26...Re6 27.Nxf6+ 27.d7 was winning immediately.
27...Rxf6 28.d7 Easier was 28.Ng4 and winning the exchange.
28...Qc7 29.Qg4 c4 30.Rg3 g6 31.h5 cxb3 32.Rxb3 Na4 33.hxg6 fxg6 34.Rxb4 Nc3+ 35.Kc2 b5 36.Kb3 Na4 37.Qf3 (37.Bd2!) Nc5+ 38.Kc2 Na4+

Anand's inaccurate play helped Andreikin to escape, although the objective evaluation of the position didn't change. The win became not that obvious. Indian repeated the moves before the time control...
39.Kb3 Nc5+ 40.Kc2 Na4+
...and went into thinking.
Anand, "I wanted to win, but you know, when you don't see a clear way to victory and also feel tired, you only want to take a practical decision. I saw the complications after 41.Kd2 Qd6+ 42.Nd3 and decided not to risk."
41.Kb3 1/2
Winning was computer precise 41.Rc4!

Andreikin, "That was a lucky turn for me."

Thus, Anand made another small step towards the world championship match against Carlsen. Vishy will face Karjakin in perhaps the key match of the tournament for him after the rest day.
