World Mind Games started in Beijing

Another "entertaining" tournament starts in Beijing, China: 16-men and 16-women participants will compete for the prizes. Except chess, there will be played bridge, draughts, go and xiangqi (Chinese chess).  

In chess section three competitions will take place: rapid, blitz and basque system chess (playing on two boards at a time).Rapid tournament is scheduled for today and tomorrow (7-round Swiss); the strongest blitz players will be determined on December 14-16 in double round-robin, the basque type chess will be played on December 17-18. The games start at 07:00 CET. Last round will be played at 04.00 CET.

  • The chess program of the World Mind Sports Games 2012 has started today. 16 men and women started fight in the competition which is divided into three parts: today started the 7-round rapid tournament in Swiss format (4 rounds will be played today, 3 rounds tomorrow). It will be followed by round-robin blitz competition which will start on Sunday and will also continue for two days.

  • The Mind Games are close to finish in Beijing, China. As we have already reported rapid competition was won by Wang Yue, while Karjakin finished first in blitz. Today Karjakin won the basque system competition in which participants had to play simultaneously on two boards.  

  • FIDE announced that World Mind games will take place in Beijing in December (12-20) this year. The men and women tournament will be held at the same time. The FIDE site offers the following lists of players:

  • Three days ago Valentina Gunia of Russia won the rapid competition of World Mind Games held in Beijing, China. In blitz Hou Yifan didn't share first.

  • Brno hosted blitz competitions to determine strongest among men and women. Both tournaments were round-robin, four qualified players fought for the main prize in knock-out system.

    In the final mini-match Navara lost first game against Babula, but he managed to take revenge and recoup himself in Armageddon. Martina Mareckova won in women's section in a similar way.

  • The only free day allocated for the participants of the 3rd China Women Chess Masters Tournament turned out to be quite active: first they were on the excursion, then they held simuls for the local kids. Let us remind you, the tournament gathered eight Chinese players, one Russian (Valentina Gunina) and one Georgian (Lela Javakhishvili). 

  • The 3rd China Women Chess Masters Tournament has started today. This is a round-robin competition which gathered eight Chinese players (all the strongest except Hou Yifan and Zhao Xue), one Russian Valentina Gunina and one Georgian Lela Javakhishvili.

    Ju Wenjun, Tan Zhongyi, Huang Qian, Guo Qi, Ding Yixin, Wang Jue, Shen Yang, Zhang Xiaowen are representing China.

    The opening ceremony and drawing were held yesterday. 

  • Anna Ushenina will face Peter Svidler, Hou Yifan - Alexey Shirov
