The organizers of the traditional London Chess Classic announced this year's competition will switch to rapid chess. It is planned to take place from December 11 to 15; the decision was made because of two factors: the world championship match finishes shortly before (November 26) the rapid tournament will start, while team championship is scheduled to end on December 6, so most of the potential participants might not be "much into classical chess."

Regulations: 16 participants will be devided into 4 groups; two will qualify from each. Eight qualified players will compete in knock-out. Time control of the games will be 25+10.

Already two grandmasters - Viswanathan Anand and Hikaru Nakamura confirmed their participation.
