Michael Adams wins in Dortmund to get closer to world top-10

In the last round of the Dortmund competition Vladimir Kramnik needed only a win in order to surpass the leader Michael Adams. Russian GM chose an unusual for him Sicilian defense, however, Englishman managed to force draw almost in the very opening: in the final position black has nothing better to do than just repeating the moves. Thr same kind of 12-move draw was registered between Mann and Stocek in 1997.

As a result, Michael Adams gathered 7 points and took clear first.

It's hard to remember when has Adams won such top-level round-robin tournament last. Michael rarely appears in the headlines after leaving Grand Prix Series in 2008 being dissatisfied with permanent changes in the regulations. He's playing quite frequently but mostly in opens or team championships. His last noteworthy win was in Gibraltar 2010. Another success was in London Chess Classic-2012 when he shared 3-4 places leaving behind Kramnik and Aronian.

Adams gained 21 rating points by playing 9 games and now he is world #12 with 2761 ELO points.
