Boris Gelfand Played the "Best Tournament for Many Years"

"The most valuable victory? The one over Nakamura."

"If earlier I was mainly successful in the cycles for the world championship, now I manage to show good results in unofficial tournaments as well, and sometimes even good play," - said Boris Gelfand immediately after his game with Vladimir Kramnik in the last round of the Tal Memorial. The quick draw, as it turned out, fully arranged the Israeli grandmaster: Magnus Carlsen failed to defeat Shakhriyar Mamedyarov, and Gelfand took the clear first place with a score of 6 out of 9.

Gelfand described the tournament in Moscow as his best in many years for the quality of the games. At the same time, he has voiced two omissions: his miss of the winning move in the game against Carlsen, as well as his "failed game" with Mamedyarov. Gelfand did not suffer a single defeat, won two games with black and one with white. However, the most valuable victory, according to the ex-contender for the chess crown, was the one over Nakamura: "In that game, I was able to carry out a classical counter-attack."

See all the nine games of the triumphant.
