Vassily Ivanchuk suffered another defeat that is utterly unexplainable, at the Grand Prix in Thessaloniki. In his game against Ponomariov in round 6, Vassily stopped the clock after White's 19th move, when not a single piece or pawn has been yet exchanged.

The experienced Grandmaster has personally led his king to the gallows: 16...0-0-0? 17.a4 Kb7 18.Qb1 Na7? 19.a5 1-0

"This game has nothing to do with chess. It's pure psychology, - Ponomarev stated at the press conference, referring to Ivanchuk's unsuccessful performance in the tournament as a whole. - As a team partner, I want Vassily to recover as soon as possible."
