"Too Winning to Spoil It Easely." Aronian Beat Kramnik

Levon Aronian recovered from the yesterday's loss at the Alekhine Memorial.

Vladimir Kramnik played against the Armenian GM the improved Tarrasch defense (in the recent interview given to our website Russian GM noted he was planning to use the preparation for the London Candidates in the nearest competitions he will be participating in); Levon prepared a crafty plan which, as he has revealed, has been studied by him 2-3 years ago.

According to Aronian if White manages to play e4-e5, Black's position becomes stably passive. Kramnik, on the contrary, thought Black was just a little it worse and defending the position was absolutely possible.

ARONIAN - KRAMNIK

After the game Russian suggested that Black should have first exchange on c1: 18...Rxc1 19.Rxc1 only after this to play 19...Nf8 аnd to respond with 20...g5 on 20.Rc7. In the game after 18...Nf8 19.f5 Black made a mistake by beating 19...exf5 (both players agreed on this). Black should have placed its rook on d8.
21.Bxf5 Rd8 22.Rd1 Ng6 23.Bxg6 Aronian, "There are another options, but I thought this is the easiest. After 23...hxg6 24.d5 it should be difficult to defend, if defendable at all..."

Aronian: "Maybe I allowed myself some inaccuracies but the position is too winning to spoil it easely."

Watch this and other games of the round. Namely, you can check out Vachier-Lagrave's nice win over Ding Liren.
